Multi-Digit Addition of Whole Numbers with Regrouping:
- Arrange the numbers being added into a vertical format
- Place the number with more digits on top
- Line up the digits by place value
- Draw a horizontal line underneath the bottom number
- Place a "+" to the left of the bottom number
- Add the digits in the rightmost column and place the answer directly below
- When the sum of a column is larger than 9, use the carrying process:
- Write the rightmost digit of the sum in the answer column
- Carry the leftmost digit of the sum into the next column
- Repeat the process for each column working to the left
