Multi-Digit Multiplication of Whole Numbers:
- Arrange the numbers being multiplied into a vertical format
- Place the number with more digits on top
- If both numbers have the same number of digits either can be on top
- Draw a horizontal line underneath the bottom number
- Place a "×" to the left of the bottom number
- Begin by selecting the rightmost digit of the bottom number
- Multiply this digit by each digit in the top number working right to left
- Place each answer directly below the horizontal line working right to left
- Use the carrying process for any answer larger than 9
- Continue the process for each digit working left in the bottom number
- Record the answers on a new row and shift the start one place left
- It may be helpful to write a zero in the skipped over places
- Once the multiplication process is done, find the sum of the numbers below the horizonal line
