Comparing Decimal Numbers:

  1. Compare any whole number parts:
    • The decimal number with the larger whole number part is the larger number
  2. If the two whole number parts are the same:
    • Compare digits in each number after the decimal point
    • The larger digit belongs to the larger number
    • When the two digits are the same, we move right by one digit and repeat the process
    • If all digits are equal, the two numbers are equal

Comparing Negative Decimal Numbers:

  1. Any positive number is larger than any negative number
  2. If both numbers are negative, the larger negative is the smaller number
