Polar Form of a Line

About:
Additional Resources:

In this lesson, we will learn how to convert linear equations in two variables (lines) from rectangular form to polar form. Additionally, we will learn strategies to graph a linear equation in two variables on the polar coordinate plane. To convert from rectangular form to polar form is very simple. We will replace x with r cos θ and y with r sin θ. After this is done, we will solve the equation for r. Converting from polar form to rectangular form is a much more involved process. We will need to use several relationships for r, tangent, x, and y, and plug in based on the situation given.
