Solving Trigonometric Equations Using Square Roots, Squaring, & Identities

Additional Resources:

In this lesson, we will continue to learn how to solve trigonometric equations. Here, we will focus on how to solve a trigonometric equation with square roots, squaring, and identities. We must realize that when we square both sides of an equation, we lose information. This may result in extraneous solutions or solutions for the squared equation that will not work in the original. Therefore, it is necessary to check all proposed solutions in the original equation.
