Multiplying a Matrix by a Scalar
About:
Additional Resources:
In this lesson, we will learn how to multiply a matrix by a scalar. A scalar in matrix algebra is a real number that is not inside of a matrix. In order to multiply a matrix by a scalar, we will multiply the scalar by each and every element of the given matrix. We will also learn about the properties associated with scalar multiplication. Lastly, we will learn how to solve very basic matrix equations when scalar multiplication is involved. This is done by first using the algebraic techniques we learned when solving linear equations. From there, we can perform the needed operations and find our unknown matrix.
