The Square Root Property

In this lesson, we learn how to solve quadratic equations using the square root property. We previously learned how to solve quadratic equations using factoring, however, this method isn’t available for all quadratic equations. We turn to the square root property that can be used in conjunction with completing the square to solve any quadratic equation that we come across. Basically, the square root property tells us if something such as x is squared and it is set equal to some real number k, then x can be the square root of k or x can be the negative square root of k. So if x squared was 9, then x could be 3 or x could be -3.
