Graphing Parabolas
About:
Additional Resources:
In this section, we learn how to graph a quadratic equation. Up to this point, we have only graphed linear equations. Moving forward, we will need to be able to graph all types of equations. The graph of a quadratic equation is known as a parabola. When we work with parabolas, there are a few key points to focus on. The first item is to be able to locate the vertex of a parabola. The vertex of the parabola is the lowest point if the parabola opens up. This occurs when the coefficient of the squared variable is positive. The vertex of the parabola is the highest point if the parabola opens down. This occurs when the coefficient of the squared variable is negative. Additionally, we will learn about horizontal and vertical shifts.
