Factoring Trinomials Part 2

About:
Additional Resources:

In this section, we learn how to factor a trinomial where the leading coefficient is not one. This scenario is much more complicated and tedious. We have two main methods that are available to perform this task. We can use factoring by grouping, by rewriting the trinomial as a four-term polynomial. We can also use a process known as reverse FOIL. There are also many tricks and special techniques that one can use to find the answer. We will focus on factoring by grouping for the rest of Algebra 1 as it is much easier to understand and provides the most consistent workload. We also teach how to use the reverse FOIL method, but steer clear of this method past this section.
