About System of Linear Inequalities:

Once we have mastered graphing a linear inequality in two variables, we move into graphing a system of linear inequalities in two variables. In order to do this, we graph each inequality separately. We then look for sections of the coordinate plane, where the graphs overlap.

Test Objectives
  • Demonstrate the ability to graph a linear inequality in two variables
  • Demonstrate the ability to graph a system of linear inequalities in two variables
  • Demonstrate the ability to check the solution for a system of linear inequalities
System of Linear Inequalities Practice Test:

#1:

Instructions: Graph each system of linear inequalities.

a) x + 3y ≤ 6 : x - y ≤ 2

#2:

Instructions: Graph each system of linear inequalities.

a) x > -1 : x - y ≤ 2

#3:

Instructions: Graph each system of linear inequalities.

a) x - 2y > 4 : 2x - 4y > -8

#4:

Instructions: Graph each system of linear inequalities.

a) x + y > 3 : x + y < -2

#5:

Instructions: Graph each system of linear inequalities.

a) x - 2y > 2 : x - 2y ≤ 6

Written Solutions:

#1:

Solutions:

a) x + 3y ≤6, x - y ≤ 2

graphing x + 3 is less than or equal to 6 along with x - y is less than or equal to 2

#2:

Solutions:

a) x > -1, x - y ≤ 2

graphing x is greater than -1 along with x -y is less than or equal to 2

#3:

Solutions:

a) x - 2y > 4, 2x - 4y > -8

graphing x - 2y is greater than 4 along with 2x - 4y is greater than -8

#4:

Solutions:

a) no solution

#5:

Solutions:

a) x - 2y > 2, x - 2y ≤ 6

graphing x - 2y is greater than 2 along with x - 2y is less than or equal to 6
