For example, one-third and two-sixths are equal in value, but do not look the same upon inspection. We simplify a fraction by factoring the numerator and denominator completely, then canceling any common factors between the two. Essentially, we are removing the GCF or greatest common factor from the two. A simplified fraction will have a numerator and denominator that contains no common factors other than one.
