In this section, we learn how to simplify Complex Fractions, more specifically Complex Rational Expressions. In pre-algebra, we learned that a complex fraction is a fraction that contains a fraction in its numerator, denominator, or both. These also occur when we deal with rational expressions. There are two main methods to simplify this type of problem. In the first case, we simplify the numerator and denominator of the complex rational expression separately, and then perform the main division. Alternatively, we can multiply the numerator and denominator of the complex fraction by the LCD of all denominators involved. Generally, the LCD method is faster, especially on more complex problems.
