Plotting Ordered Pairs Lesson

In this Section:

In this section, we will learn how to plot ordered pairs (x,y) on the Cartesian coordinate system (coordinate plane). We first explain how the coordinate plane is setup. We have two number lines, which intersect at the point (0,0). One of the number lines is horizontal and represents the x values. This number line is known as the x - axis. The other number line is vertical and represents the y values. This number line is known as the y - axis. Once we understand how the coordinate plane is setup, we show where the four quadrants are on the coordinate plane. Lastly, we cover how to actually plot an ordered pair. There are many techniques to do this, but we are simply finding the meeting point of the x and y locations on the coordinate plane.
